Throughout the evening, Stødle demonstrated the full process of preparing seal skin — from scraping off the blubber, to washing the skin, and finally mounting it in a frame for efficient drying. Participants were invited to try scraping themselves, making the workshop both educational and interactive.
— “It was great to see people engage with the process and ask questions along the way. This is knowledge that needs to be shared and passed on,” said Ove Stødle after the event.
The workshop was open to all, and Mearrasiida created a welcoming atmosphere with light refreshments and space for conversation, reflection, and learning. The event is part of Mearrasiida’s ongoing work to strengthen and highlight coastal Sámi culture and traditions.
