Greenland in the spotlight

Ida Hydle went to an important event “Grønland I søkelyset” (Greenland in Focus) at Lysebu in Oslo. The event was arranged by Fondet for dansk-norsk samarbeid (Foundation for Danish-Norwegian cooperation) and it highlighted the relations between Kalaallit Nunaat and the Nordic countries. Presenters from Kalaallit Nunaat, Denmark and Norway talked about past, present and possible futures concerning serious population traumas due to Danish colonialisation and new threats from US geopolicy.

The Northern Sámi expression «Birgejupmi» is the word for “ways to manage/get by» – and the idea of self-sufficiency,  taking only what is necessary from nature, ensuring the ability to harvest again in the future. The same ideas were brought forward several times from the presentations about and from Kalaallit Nunaat. The similarity with Sápmi was also highlighted.
