Jan Erik Henriksen (UiT) attended the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) Conferences in Oslo and Alta 6.10.2025-10.10.2025. He held his keynote presentation “Birgejupmi – a Sámi philosophy about sustainability” on Monday 6.10. for more than 650 participants. 

The IFSW Conferences consisted of two parts, from 6 to 8 October 2025, researchers and social workers all over Europe gathered in Oslo for the IFSW Europe Regional Conference and from 9 to 10 October 2025 they continued with an after-conference in Alta for Indigenous Social Work. The conferences were organised in collaboration with Fellesorganisasjonen, the Norwegian Union of Social Educators and Social Workers.

Birgejupmi was also a central term on the after-conference in Alta 9.-10.10.2025. Jan Erik Henriksen and Ida Hydle invited some sea Sámi knowledgeholders to a talkingcircle about Birgejupmi in sea Sámi areas.
