Coastscapes-relationalities: Uncovering silenced knowledge systems and crafting a relational One Health approach for community resilience, reconciliation, and well-being

This work package contributes to uncovering silenced traditional IK and local knowledge within archival records from Arctic coastal communities, a deeper understanding of the relational values to environment via connections between art, healing, and the natural world, and innovative and multimodal methods to strengthen the visibility of IK and local knowledge systems. The WP will focus on crafting a relational One Health approach grounded in IK in Arctic coastal regions that can facilitate the development, dissemination, and maintenance of Indigenous approaches to health and relational well-being.

Uncover silenced traditional IK and local knowledge within archival records from Arctic coastal communities to make this knowledge available again and accessible to policy for better informed marine governance.

International conference on Indigenous art methods, healing, and reconciliation: Plan and organize the 1st international conference centered on Indigenous art methods, healing, and reconciliation in Sápmi, emphasizing the interconnectedness with the environment. Facilitate the exchange of knowledge gleaned from sessions involving artists, Elders, academics, and knowledge holders to foster a deeper understanding of the relationship between Indigenous art, healing practices, and the natural world. Lay a strong foundation for capacity building and education work.

Identify and assess sea- and landscape memories and make visible silenced traditional Indigenous and local knowledge in coastal community archives in Sápmi and Kalaallit Nunaat.

Create a knowledge base on One Health grounded in land- and seascape relationalities.

Document Inuit terminologies and conceptualizations of health and relational well-being, and identify how they relate to land- and sea-based healing in Kalaallit Nunaat using an Indigenous knowledge grounded One Health approach.

Indigenous-led healing: Crafting a One Health approach in Arctic coastal communities based on Inuit knowledge. This practice-based research will develop a workshop framework that will be held, tested, and assessed in three coastal communities in Kalaallit Nunaat, offering a blueprint and toolbox for future development in other Arctic coastal communities.

Conference report: Report with key learnings from the Indigenous art methods, healing and reconciliation conference

Report on identified instances of silencing or suppression of IK and Local Knowledge within archival records from coastal communities in Sápmi and Kalaallit Nunaat. This deliverable includes collaborative insights obtained in cooperation with local partners, shedding light on the historical aspects and implications of such silencing in coastal communities.

Toolbox of localized Indigenous-led healing-responsive approach to One Health challenges, based on Kalaallit terminologies, concepts of land, sea, relational well-being.
