The project aims at assessing the impact -including opportunities and challenges- of climate change mitigation measures as experienced by young people living in Finnmark. In doing so, the project wants to collaboratively engage and understand young people’s vision of future in relation to the expansion of power production and wind energy projects in the Arctic. By a critical conceptualization of sustainability, WP4 focuses on decolonial ideas and visions of sustainability, by bringing together different knowledge systems. As a result, the participants will shape their ideas into a multimodal exhibition, which will work as a vehicle to communicate their vision.
Assessing the impact, in terms of opportunities and challenges, brought about by climate change mitigation measures, as experienced by young people living in the coastal areas of Finnmark (Norway).
Engaging with young people in a process of co-design and co-curation to develop their visions of future and environmental decision-making as a co-creative multimodal exhibition.

One of the central activities of WP4 is a co-creative workshop that will be held in one of the coastal communities of the Norwegian Arctic. This activity will be co-created through a community meeting where relevant and pressing topics will be identified. The workshop will explore the visions of young people living in Finnmark in relation to the climate change mitigation measures in place, such as the transition to renewable energies. The goal of the workshop is bringing people together, creating a space for debate about sustainability and decision-making processes, and translating visions and ideas into a multimodal format. The multimodal exhibition resulting from this co-creative process will enable great room for expression and for spreading ideas within and beyond local communities.
Co-imagine alternative futures to elicit young people’s experiences of living in an environment marked by climate-change induced socio-cultural changes, as well as changes brought on by adaptive measures such as the building of electricity lines and development of wind farms in the area through the process of co-curating the exhibition.
Co-design interactive community exhibition by the theme “The Future is Now: Young people’s Visions of EastFinnmark” based on mixed-media and expression beyond the textual form such as photography, film, performance, and poetry with young people from East-Finnmark.
The output of the multimodal exhibition will be a catalogue co-created with the participants.
The researchers involved in WP4 bring together knowledge and experience from social work, visual arts, environmental studies, education studies, anthropology and social sciences. Their focus on methodologies and ethics in strengthen by their experience of fieldwork and research in Arctic communities.
Unjárga/Nesseby is a key Birgejupmi site where Sámi knowledge and youth co-design shape climate, marine, and invasive species research. Workshops and exhibitions explore future visions and assess wind energy’s cultural impacts, supporting Indigenous resilience and adaptation.
Berlevåg is a key Birgejupmi site where youth shape visions for sustainable futures. Through workshops and exhibitions, they explore wind energy and socio-environmental change, fostering inclusive climate decisions and Indigenous resilience in East-Finnmark.
