Máistu – the first Sami food conference

Initiated by the Sámi Parliament, Máistu, highlighted Sámi food systems through the sustainability lens. Ida Hydle, Jan Erik Henriksen, Andrea K. Domaas, and Ove Stødle (Mearrasiida) participated at the conference. Kreativ Industri provided technical hosting. Arvu captured the event with photographs. Conference topics included food heritage, legal barriers, rebranding traditions, resilient Indigenous food futures. Speakers included chefs, artists, entrepreneurs, researchers. Sámi birgejupmi and food experts presented on heritage-based food practices and seasonal preservation techniques. Side events included workshops, book talks, local food tastings, and culinary experiences. Máistu showed that Sámi cuisine is more than just food: it is identity, sustainability, and community.
